Bayern beat Inter 2-0 in their last Champions League group stage match, which was a formality. Both the teams have already secured their place in the Round of 16 with Inter finishing second. But it was a test for the Nerazzurri to see where they stand. Inter were coming into this game with a good run of form, but they are still far off the top teams in Europe. However, Inter could have gone up in the first half several times, but they were not clinical.

The Nerazzurri were looking good in the start as both teams were settling into the game. Both the teams were not looking to press high as the game was largely redundant. But Bayern still had a solid mid-block, and Inter had to work through the flanks to get ahead. Lautaro had a chance from Gosens’ cross, but his sliding effort was off-target.

Bellanova had a couple of runs down the right flank and got Inter a corner. Barella’s volley following the corner hit Mane’s hand, but the referee decided not to give a penalty. Bayern got their goal from a corner as Lautaro slipped inside the box. Pavard took advantage and placed his header far from Onana’s reach.

Bayern made a couple of changes that improved their team as Musiala and Mane came on.

Musiala had an instant impact as he dribbled past a few challenges, and Onana had to stop him from finding the corner. Bayern were taking lots of shots from outside the box as Inter had a low block. Choupo-Moting finally fired a rocket from outside the box and doubled Bayern’s lead.

Inzaghi made more changes, and Carboni came to feature in his first Champions League game. Inter did not have the intensity to construct a comeback. They will now focus on the Serie A as three important games are coming up before the break.
