Calhanoglu could miss Milan derby due to hip injury

Hakan Calhanoglu could miss the Milan derby as he is struggling to recover from his hip injury. The Turkish midfielder enjoys playing against his former club, but the reports show that his injury could be serious. He came off in the Monza game after 55 minutes and has had a strain since then. An underlying thigh flexor issue could keep him out for more than a week. The city rivals will face each other in the Supercoppa Italiana final.

Calhanoglu’s involvement in Derby Della Madonnina always sparks energy in the audience as the Rossoneri feel he betrayed them. The Turkish midfielder came on a free transfer to Inter, as he felt he could win more trophies and grow more with the Nerazzurri. Moreover, this season he has been a brilliant backup to Brozovic. So, with Marcelo Brozovic still recovering, Calhanoglu’s absence could cause a selection headache for Inzaghi.

The Nerazzurri will miss the quality of Calhanoglu in the middle of the park and will have to wait for Brozovic’s recovery. Or, Kristjan Asllani could play his first Derby Della Madonnina. Inzaghi might go for Gagliardini as well, who has more experience and adds strength to Inter Milan’s midfield. Barella also had a knock after the Monza game, but he will recover in time. The Nerazzurri will be focused to defend this trophy against Milan.

Calhanoglu has been a good acquisition so far, as he had to fill the boots of Christian Eriksen. Calhanoglu has the passing range and the linkup-play to excel in that role. So, Inter Milan are looking to give the Turkish midfielder another contract as his current deal expires next year. But the Nerazzurri will not wait for the next season as they want to tie him down till June 2026.
