Inexperienced Italy hold Germany in the Nations League

Inexperienced Italy hold Germany in their first match. Mancini has started a rebuild project as he is giving more chances to the young and talented players. He decided to do a complete overhaul of the squad as only Donnarumma kept his place from their last match. The Azzurri are planning to make the transition, and they are ready to make big changes. The young guns did not disappoint as they managed to get a point against the mighty Germans.

Mancini kept the usual 4-3-3 shape but had different types of players in front. These players played together for the first time, and it was evident in the opening minutes as they struggled to click. Scamacca had a brilliant chance in the first half as he managed to beat Rudiger, but his shot hit the post. Gnabry and Sane were causing problems from the flanks. Gnabry had the chance to open the scoring as he cut inside, but he could not control his shot.

Inexperienced Italy hold Germany, and earns a point in their first game

Italy started the second half strongly as Scamacca got a couple of chances. The substitutions changed the game for Italy as Mancini brought Gnonto on for Politano, who was struggling to continue. Gnonto came out from Inter Milan’s youth academy and joined Zurich in 2020. He has been in terrific form as he scored 5 goals in 10 games with the Italy U-21 side.

Italy opened the scoring in the 70th minute as Gnonto got the ball towards the right flank. He got past Kehrer to deliver a perfect ball for Pellegrini, who came at the right time to tap in and give the lead to the Azzurri. The former Inter player provided an assist just minutes into his first game for Italy. But, a few minutes later, Germany scored the equalizer as Italy had a lapse of concentration.

The wily German side showed their experience, as they committed numbers forward right after the kick-off. A quick interchange between the Chelsea teammates Havertz and Werner gave space to Hofmann to deliver a cross. But, Werner could not put the ball past Donnarumma however, Kimmich made a surging run forward to bury the chance. Finally, both sides made some changes to keep up the intensity, but no one could score the winner.
