Inter Milan beat Atalanta 1-0. They move six points clear at the top of Serie A. Atalanta was a big hurdle in Inter’s title charge. Defender Milan Škriniar scored early in the second half. He has now boosted Inter’s chances of winning its first Italian league title in more than a decade.

Inter’s seventh successive win saw it restore its healthy advantage over the second-placed AC Milan. They are also 10 points clear of the third-placed Juventus, who have played a match less. “Our rivals had won so it was inevitable that we felt a certain pressure, which will keep on increasing,” said the Inter coach Antonio Conte. “Moreover, we were facing an Atalanta side which takes points off all the big teams. We’ve taken home a really important win against a team which could have disrupted our title bid but is now 13 points behind us.”

Conte opted to go for Arturo Vidal instead of Christian Eriksen. He chose him to bring the steel in the midfield. Also, he wanted someone who could cover for Ivan Perisic at the back when he pushed forward. Vidal did that job but was very sloppy with his passes and gave possession to Atalanta easily. So Conte subbed him at 52′ minute. Eriksen had an instant impact as he took a corner which led to the goal. After that Inter were very compact in defense and focused only on counters. Atalanta had a couple of good chances but could not finish them. Gasperini started Zapata on the left side so he could exploit the space left by Hakimi at the back. He got one on one with Skriniar, who dealt with him perfectly.

Inter held on to their seventh clean sheet in their past nine league matches. They have conceded only two goals in this run.
