Inter beat Lecce 2-0 and move to second

Inter beat Lecce 2-0 comfortably as they managed to correct the mistakes that they made against Bologna. The Nerazzurri were in much more control since the start and played with intensity. Inzaghi made a couple of changes as he brought Dzeko back to partner with Lautaro at the top. While Barella replaced Brozovic, and Calhanoglu dropped to the regista position. Inter reduced Napoli’s lead to 15, as they lost against Lazio over the weekend.

The Nerazzurri were comfortable from the start, as they used the width of the pitch and stretched Lecce’s backline. So the visitors were struggling to get possession of the ball, and Inter were moving the ball with purpose. Calhanoglu checked the keeper with his long shot from outside the box in the opening minutes.

Inter Milan got the lead with a swift counter down the left flank. Gosens won the ball and made a darting run forward. Calhanoglu played it to Lautaro, who released Gosens with a clever touch. So the German wing-back played it across to Barella, who showed brilliant trickery and composure to keep the ball under pressure. Finally, Barella picked Mkhitaryan at the right time as the Armenian placed it brilliantly to the top right corner.

Inter continued their domination in the second half and found an early goal with a simple build-up. Lecce were caught easily in defense as Barella released Dumfries down the right flank, who had the time to pick out Lautaro easily. While the Argentine striker struck first time with a sublime finish to continue his goal-scoring form and double the lead for Inter. The Nerazzurri were relentless with their high press even in the second half.
Inter had a penalty shout as Gosens was down in the box, but the referee decided against pointing to the spot after consulting with VAR. Inzaghi then made some changes as both goal-scorers were replaced with Lukaku and Brozovic. Inter were able to see off some danger from Lecce in transition, as the fresh legs helped in defense. They will now focus on the away game against Spezia next week.
