Inter can go through to the UCL round of 16 as they beat Monchengladbach away from home. The Nerazzurri registered their first win in the Champions League at Monchengladbach. Inter were virtually out of the tournament when Real Madrid did a double on them. But, Antonio Conte’s men have managed to turn the tables in the league and Europe.
Inter can qualify for the Round of 16 of the Champions League if they beat Shakhtar in the final group game. But, the Nerazzurri will also want the Monchengladbach vs Real Madrid game to not end in a draw. Thankfully, both the games will start at the same time so Gladbach and Madrid won’t know if they’ve to win or just draw to qualify. Furthermore, Inter will have the advantage of playing at home against a Shakhtar side that has done a double on Madrid.
Antonio Conte has been an unlucky figure as a manager when it comes to the Champions League. The former Italy manager won the tournament with Juventus. But he has failed to live up to the mark as a manager.
Inter can go through, but will they script a great escape
Inter can go through to the Round of 16 of the Champions League. The Nerazzurri don’t like to do it the easy way. But, if things go Inter’s way on Matchday 6 and the Nerazzurri qualify, it will be a great escape. Last season, Atalanta managed to escape their group after a disastrous start to the campaign. The Bergamo club then went on as far as the Quarterfinals. They almost knocked eventual finalists PSG out in that game before going down in the dying minutes. The lesson for Inter is if they go through they’ll have the chance to make an incredible run in the knockouts. Antonio Conte and his team surely have this on their minds and hopefully, this will reflect in their performance against Shakhtar.
