Inter continue to pursue Wijnaldum despite Barcelona’s progress in the deal. Inter were interested in signing the Dutch while Barca were eyeing him too. At the age of 6, Wijnaldum developed himself swiftly at Sparta Rotterdam. He won two championship titles in his first two seasons. Seeing his growth, Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord showed interest in the youngster. However, he declined the offers since he had no experience. After playing for Sparta for seven seasons, he finally decided to accept Feyenoord’s offer.
In 2011, he moved to PSV on a reported fee of €5 million. Wijnaldum became the captain in the 2013-14 Eredivisie season. However, due to a back injury, he only played 11 matches that year. However, in the 2014-15 season, Wijnaldum recovered and captained PSV to their first Eredivisie title since 2008. He further joined Newcastle United on a five-year contract in 2015. However, the club was relegated after the season. Thus, he returned to the Premier League by signing for Liverpool on a reported fee of £23 million with £2 million in add-ons. He signed a five-year contract with the club.
Inter continue to pursue Wijnaldum despite a financial curb
The 30-year old is in the final year of his contract with the club. Conte’s squad is performing exceptionally well in Serie A. In fact, Inter are Serie A favorites at the moment. Inter’s Sporting director is looking for targets as Inter are close to winning the Scudetto after 2010. He is in contact with Wijnaldum’s representatives for a while now. The club might have to let go of some players if Suning does not get an investor.
While this might be in favor of the club, Inter have two more problems to deal with. One, Wijnaldum’s demand for €9-10 million per season plus a huge signing fee. And, Suning’s financial troubles. With the current demand, the Nerazzurri cannot afford the Dutch. In the meantime, Barcelona has an added advantage in the deal over Inter. Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has worked with Wijnaldum in the Netherland team. Plus, the negotiation status has reached an advanced stage.
