Inter eye Junior Firpo, AC Milan also interested

Inter eye Junior Firpo yet again after Barcelona put an end to it last season. City rivals AC Milan are also showing interest in the Spanish player. The Nerazzurri were in talks for a possible swap deal between Lautaro and Firpo in Summer 2020. However, that could not go through. Inter have had eyes on Firpo for a while now. They tried to fix a swap deal with Lautaro and Firpo involved but due to financial constraints, the move wouldn’t go through.

At the age of 18, Firpo joined the Real Betis youth setup. He further made his senior debut against Granada CF B in a 1-1 draw for the Segunda Division B championship. He was promoted to the B-side in the 2015-16 season and appeared regularly throughout the season. However, that led to relegation. He renewed his contract in 2017 after playing with the main squad pre-season, till 2021. He made his first-team and La Liga debut together in a match against Deportivo de La Coruna. After this, he became the first Dominican Republican player to have ever featured in La Liga.

Firpo joined Barcelona in the 18/19 season on a five-year deal for €18 million with €12 million in add-ons. He made his debut for Barcelona against his former club, Betis in a 5-2 home win. Under financial constraints, Barcelona was looking to offload players last season and Firpo was on the list.

With Martinez involved, Barcelona offered a number of players to Inter but CEO Beppe Marotta and the sporting director Ausilio saw him as the right fit. Firpo can be partner Hakimi on the other end. While Ashley Young needs rest and Conte can make use of the youngster’s energy on the field. In fact, Ivan Perisic is also out of favour for Conte these days. It is well-known that Inter are under a financial constraint at the moment but they might consider signing him in the summer. Suning, the owners, said that the market will be steady this year.
