Inter thrash Lugano 5-0 but loopholes emerge

Inter thrash Lugano 5-0, but the Nerazzurri club were not at their best. Not every day will a team thrash the other so bad and not be in its best shape. But with Inter, anything and everything can happen on the field. Inter vs Lugano marked the start of Antonio Conte’s second season at the helm of the club. And the team showed up very well.

Being the very first game of the season, the Nerazzurri were a bit rusty. But let’s not blame the players for making it to the Europa League final and coming back on the field only within weeks. Achraf Hakimi stood out in the first half and was by far the best performer. His assist for the first goal to Dalbert marked his arrival at Inter. While the Moroccan was pretty much amazing in his position, he often drifted off to the left flank. This can be something that Conte is trying with the side.

Lautaro Martinez was as good as he always is and Sanchez seems to have got 100% fit. The duo were pressing high up and regained possession quite a few times. Dalbert really fit in well as a left-wing back. He went back to defend on time and made a few good runs from the flank.

Inter thrash Lugano 5-0 but the Nerazzurri defence needs improvement

Inter thrash Lugano 5-0

If you read the previous paragraphs you might’ve noticed that all the positives of the game were the attackers. That’s because the defence was in shambles in the first half at least. Milan Skriniar looked like a lost kid on the field at times. But he showed up and defended on instances and tried some playmaking which will make Conte happy. Kolarov’s presence at the wide-centre back position is something everyone expected from Conte. The most worrying thing to take away from the game is that a side of Lugano’s calibre was able to construct back to back counters. If this wasn’t enough, the Swiss side almost scored when they hit the post in the 15th minute.

Honestly, it’s not fair to be harsh on the players after the very first game of the season. The upcoming training session with Carrarese and then the last friendly with Pisa at the San Siro will give the Nerazzurri defence more time to adjust. As Inter thrash Lugano 5-0, the Nerazzurri have set the ball rolling for a successful season.
