Lautaro Martinez scores against Uruguay in a 3-0 win

Lautaro Martinez scores against Uruguay in the World Cup Qualification match. He helps Argentina to win 3-0 against Uruguay. After a draw against Paraguay on Friday, Argentina would be happy with this result against their neighbours. Lautaro had a muscle strain and hence he could not feature against Paraguay. Argentina missed him as they lacked a focal point at the front. Now against Uruguay, Lautaro took the limelight as he scored and provided an assist too. After his goal, Lautaro got substituted by another Inter player, Correa, who had one shot on target.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Argentina after a controlled first half from Argentina. They had 62% possession throughout the match and gave few chances to Uruguay in the first half. Matias Vecino started for Uruguay and gave a cross to Suarez whose volley got denied by the post. Vecino had to defend a lot in the game but he looked positive when he had the ball. In the 44th minute, Lautaro Martinez could not connect his volley from Messi’s chip but the ball, fortunately went to De Paul who finished cleanly to doubled their lead.

Uruguay made a couple of changes in the 2nd half and brought Cavani and Nunez in. Darwin Nunez had a chance earlier in the half but his effort went over the crossbar. In the 62nd minute, Messi played the ball to De Paul who gave a brilliant cross to the far post where Lo Celso tried to connect but failed. However, the ball then went to Lautaro who finished calmly at the far post. Thereafter, Argentina managed to keep the clean sheet despite Uruguay’s attacking substitutions.

Lautaro Martinez will be in action on Thursday as Argentina will host Peru for their next match.
