Liverpool’s Skriniar pursuit over as Inter won’t sell

The beginning of the January transfer window has marked Liverpool’s Skriniar pursuit over in the books of transfer experts. The Premier League champions desperately chased Milan Skriniar for a good time. But, as it turns out, the Slovenian has found form under Antonio Conte. And the Nerazzurri management are in no mood to let any of their first-team defenders leave, including Bastoni and de Vrij. Subsequently, Skriniar has changed his fortunes dramatically. At the beginning of the season, he looked like the weakest link of the Inter defence. But the 25-year-old has proved everyone wrong with his recent performances, effectively winning Conte’s trust in the process.

For a long time, €44M would’ve got Skriniar for Liverpool. But, by the time the Reds got hit by a flurry of injuries, Inter had already changed their mind. Bastoni and de Vrij are on Liverpool’s list too. Inter’s reluctance to let go of their main defenders is a good sign. This comes despite the fact that the Nerazzurri are in desperate need of cash flow.

Inter are also closely monitoring Nikola Milenkovic who’s reportedly not going to sign a new contract at Fiorentina. Inter face competition from Milan for Nikola’s signature who’ll most certainly be put on sale by Fiorentina. If Inter manage to sign Milenkovic, Conte will have ample room to rotate his defence which is only a luxury at the moment.

As Liverpool’s Skriniar pursuit is over, Inter must concentrate on signing their own players. Steven Zhang has made it very clear that Inter won’t sign anyone before offloading players. Thus, the Nerazzurri management must work to cash-in on the likes of Christian Eriksen, Ivan Perisic and others. Inter have a long list of unwanted players that don’t even make it to the bench. And this is most certainly making the squad thin for Antonio Conte’s selection. Inter also lack a left wing-back when Ashley Young fails to perform.
