Newcastle want Joao Mario, West Ham interested too

A few weeks ago it looked like Inter will fail to offload Joao Mario. But now, a good number of clubs are showing interest in signing the Portuguese. West Ham and Newcastle want Joao Mario reports The Newcastle United Blog.

Joao Mario is out of favour at the Nerazzurri club. Subsequently, the club is desperate to offload outcasts in this window. Also, Inter’s squad strength has swollen up to 37. Club President Steven Zhang and Manager Antonio Conte want that number to go down.

Inter price the 27-year-old midfielder at €17M but will accept anything around €12M. Joao Mario spent a loan spell at West Ham so it’s pretty evident that they are after him. Newcastle, on the other hand, want to strengthen their midfield. But neither of these clubs want to buy the Portuguese outright. Inter are in absolutely no mood to send him out on loan again. Ivan Perisic, Rajda Nainngolan and Joao Mario all went out on loan and were not bought by the clubs. This has immensely hampered Inter’s confidence on loaning out outcasts who’ll be back on their wage bill next season. Thus, the club will avoid loaning out any of the ageing players and will rather find buyers.

Inter will rather have Mario in the squad than loan him out. If by any chance Newcastle want Joao Mario they’ll have to pay the fee and buy him. The move is highly unlikely with clubs cutting costs and neither of Newcastle or West Ham will spend this amount on Mario. But there are other clubs after Joao too. Galatasaray, Real Betis and Valencia reportedly want to bring in the Portuguese. But it also depends on Joao Mario if he even wants to play the role these clubs are offering or even be at one of them. The Portuguese midfielder came to Inter in 2016 in a €30M plus deal. The versatile playmaker has since failed to impress at the Nerazzurri club. Thus he spent spells out on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow and West Ham. Inter want him out and maybe he wants to prove himself somewhere else too.
