Inter beat AS Roma to regain fourth spot

Inter beat AS Roma at the capital as Dimarco and Lukaku get on the scoresheet. The Nerazzurri have found their goal-scoring form at the right time, and are now finding wins away from home too. After the 6-0 win in the mid-week game, Inter decided to make some changes. Also, Inzaghi had one eye on the all-important Derby Della Madonnina in the Champions League next week. So he went with Lukaku and Correa at the front to keep Lautaro fresh.

The Nerazzurri were patient and cautious at the start. While Roma did not press high but were maintaining their compact mid-block. Pelligrini tested Onana from the edge of the box, but the Cameroonian keeper tipped it away. Brozovic was helping in the build-up, and Inter were comfortably arriving into Roma’s territory.

Dimarco found the goal from a tight angle to give Inter the lead. It was his 12th goal contribution of the season as the Italian defender has filled Perisic’s shoes perfectly.

Correa was having an off game as he missed a couple of chances at the start of the second half. As Roma were now pushing high, Barella found some space to run in the middle and squared it to Dimarco. However, his strike got deflected, and Roma cleared the corner.

The Giallorossi were knocking on the door and had a penalty shout, but VAR officials decided otherwise. A few minutes later, Onana had to make an insane save from Ibanez’s strike inside the box to keep the lead intact. Inzaghi brought Bellanova and Lautaro as Roma were looking threatening. The Argentine striker was pressing with intent right after his introduction. Bastoni had an injury scare but continued after some treatment.

The Nerazzurri will now shift their focus to the Milan derby.
