Inter beat Salzburg to enter the Round of 16

Inter Milan beat RB Salzburg as Lautaro Martinez scored the late winner. The Nerazzurri did not have a tough group, but no one expected them to go through to the Round of 16 with two games to spare. Inter had to fight till the end as it was not an easy game. This was a must-win game for the Austrian side, and they were well prepared. However, Inzaghi’s knockout tactics worked again to give Inter a win following a penalty in the 85th minute.

Both teams had a slow start to the game, as Inter and RB Salzburg were conservative in their approach. Sommer made an early save, as the ball came from deflection. The former Bayern keeper had a long day, but he stood out to keep a clean sheet by making excellent saves. RB Salzburg had the majority of chances in the first half. But Inter got into the game by the last ten minutes of the half. Frattesi had the brilliant chance to give Inter the lead but fluffed his shot.

Inter beat Salzburg 1-0 as Lautaro scored a late winner

The second half had a similar tempo as both teams were struggling to construct a real chance. However, Inter were dominating more afterward and had more of the ball. Inzaghi also brought Lautaro, Barella, and Asllani by this time, and gave Inter more energy. Players were showing some fatigue from the game against Atalanta on the weekend. Asllani took a shot from a distance, but Schlager managed to save it and respond to rebound as well.

The Nerazzurri finally got their goal as Barella’s shot hit Bidstrup’s arm in the box. Inter were given their penalty, and since Calhanoglu was not on the pitch, Lautaro stepped up to convert it. The Nerazzurri can now focus on their league as they have secured their place in the Round of 16.
