Inter beat Verona as Frattesi scores a late winner

In a dramatic Serie A clash, Inter Milan beat Hellas Verona 2-1 with Davide Frattesi’s stoppage-time goal proving decisive. Missed opportunities, late-game drama, and some fine goals, the match had it all. Inzaghi decided to stick with his strong eleven, with Lautaro coming back from his injury.

The initial half was marked by limited chances, with Verona having two notable opportunities, including Milan Djuric’s header excellently saved by Yann Sommer. Despite the scarce chances, the Nerazzurri broke the deadlock with their solitary shot on target. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s wonderful through ball found Lautaro Martinez, who clinically finished inside the box with outside of his boot.

The second half had the similar story, with Inter seemingly extending their lead through Martinez, only to have the goal disallowed for offside. Substitutions in the final 20 minutes saw Verona’s alteration paying off. Thomas Henry managed to redirect Duda’s cross into the net less than a minute after entering the pitch.

The late-game heroics belonged to Inter Milan as they stepped up at the right moment. In the 93rd minute, Alessandro Bastoni’s volley hit the bar from a corner. Frattesi made the run to tap in the rebound, restoring the lead. Verona faced further setbacks as Darko Lazovic received a red card, but their hopes were up again when awarded a penalty in deep added time after a foul by Matteo Darmian. Frattesi’s celebrations were overshadowed for that time.

However, the turn of events saw Thomas Henry’s penalty going off the left post. A subsequent header on rebound also missed the target, allowing Inter to clinch the win. Swiss international Yann Sommer played a pivotal role, making two crucial saves and benefiting from Verona’s misfortune in the penalty miss. So the result gave Inter three points to increase their lead over Juventus at the top of the table to five points. Meanwhile, Verona find themselves struggling near the relegation zone.
