Inter thrash Plzen to qualify for the Round of 16

Inter thrash Plzen 4-0 to cement their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. It is a great achievement for the Nerazzurri considering the teams present in their group. Also, they had a poor start to the season so many wrote off Inter in the group of death. Inzaghi gave rest to some players against Fiorentina, so the team looked fresh against Plzen at home. With Bastoni, Dumfries, and Dzeko back in the side, Inter were threatening from the get-go.

The Nerazzurri took some time to settle into the game as the early wave of pressure from Plzen were restricting Inter’s build-up. A couple of early chances were missed by Dzeko, but Inter finally got their goal in the 35th minute.

Bastoni decided to create an overload in the left flank as he made a surging run forward. He delivered in the box and Mkhitaryan came unmarked to head in for the first goal. Dzeko got the second just before half-time. Barella found Dimarco with a diagonal ball over the top. The Italian defender carried the ball and gave it to Dzeko for a simple tap-in.

Second-half was easy for Inter to manage as the intensity dropped and the Nerazzurri were able to control the game. Plzen made a couple of changes at half-time, but Inter continued to dominate the game. Mkhitaryan had a chance to score a brace, but his effort got away after hitting the post.

Inter again got another goal from a Barella pass over the top for Lautaro. The Argentine managed to cut back to the Bosnian striker, who completed his brace. Dzeko hit it the first time to the bottom corner to seal the game for Inter.

Inzaghi decided to bring Lukaku, who was out for several weeks but was now ready to come from the bench. The Belgian striker showed instant impact in the last ten minutes as he gave Inter something different in attack. He kept his back towards the defender and played a wonderful one-two with Correa to score the goal on his return. Inter will hope for many more important games in the future.
