Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have picked up from where they left a season ago. The LuLa show was on full display as Inter thump Spezia on Matchday 2 of the season. Spezia kept Inter away from their goal very successfully for the first 20 minutes. The Nerazzurri found it hard to build onto their possession-holding tactics until they burst into action. Then it was all Inter in the first half as attacks came in waves and all Spezia could do was sit back and defend.
After a few chances went begging, Lautaro capitalised on a Lukaku assist to put the Nerazzurri ahead. Lukaku’s first contribution at the Meazza since his return. Simone Inzaghi’s side could’ve ended the first half with a lot more goals ideally.
Inter thump Spezia 3-0 as Dzeko and Correa chip in too
After the horrific pre-season and a tough first game, Inter were in desperate need of a confidence booster. Although Spezia are not the toughest of opponents in the league, they came into this game with a solid record. This meant that it became all the more important for Inzaghi’s Inter to bring out their best performance, and they did.
In the second half, Inter did just that. A rebound to Calhanoglu’s feet gave him the chance to make it two for Inter. And then, Inter were in full control of the game by keeping possession and making the most of it. Subsequently, an Edin Dzeko flurry into the box got Correa the ball in his feat in front of an empty goal. And Inter went 3-0 up.
Spezia are definitely not a side that would’ve tested Handanovic much. But in the next game against Lazio, if Inzaghi still sticks with Handanovic, it means that Onana is a backup which shouldn’t be the case. Also, Inzaghi more or less has his attacking options sorted out for the moment. And Inter are in a rhythm that can set them free on a winning streak if they can make the most of the Lazio game next week.
