Inter Milan to face Benfica, RB Salzburg, and Real Sociedad in the UEFA Champions League. The Serie A giants landed in Group D after coming from the Pot 2. The Portuguese champions were in Pot 1 after winning the Primeira Liga. The clash with Benfica will be a rematch from last season’s Champions League quarter-finals. Inter Milan went on to win the double tie with an aggregate of 5-3. But they have upgraded their squad with Di Maria, Guedes, and Cabral coming in. The Nerazzurri then went on to be the runners-up as they fell short against City at Istanbul.
Inter also have RB Salzburg in their group, and they faced the Austrian giants in the pre-season as well. The Red Bull club has been producing a plethora of young talents in recent years. Also, Inter had troubles in pre-season as they were exuberant in the offensive phase. However, the Nerazzurri managed to outscore them in a seven-goal thriller. Karim Konate was the pick of the forwards, and Inter will have to be wary of him.
Inter to face Benfica, Salzburg, and Sociedad in the UCL group stage
Another strong team the Nerazzurri will have to face is Real Sociedad. The La Liga side is a technical unit and can cause problems for Inter’s defensive structure with their quick passing. Oyarzabal, Kubo, and Zubimendi are some players to look out for. The Spaniards are returning to the top European tournament, as they finished fourth in the La Liga standings last year.
Inter have a relatively easier group on paper, compared to their city rivals AC Milan. The Rossoneri are drawn to Paris Saint Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle United. The Serie A giants will have to push hard to get a spot in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Inter can not get complacent as they would want to show that last year was no fluke.
