Inter win Coppa Italia as Lautaro scores brace

Inter Milan win another Coppa Italia title as they beat Fiorentina 2-1. The Nerazzurri have now won two trophies this season and will be eager to get another one at Istanbul. Inzaghi went with his best lineup but with Handanovic between the posts. Inter were dreadful at the start, and their defense looked shaky. However, they grew into the game as Lautaro scored a brace. Fiorentina tried to make a comeback in the second half with their aggressive press, but Inter were calm and held onto their lead.

Fiorentina took the lead in the opening minutes as Inter’s defense was shaky during the start. Ikone placed a through ball between the legs of Darmian, which went past the entire defense as Acerbi and Bastoni both were caught sleeping. Bastoni was following the run of Cabral, which left space for Nico Gonzalez at the far post, who fired past Handanovic. The Nerazzurri captain could have done better on the near post.

Inter then grew into the game, as Fiorentina were happy to make a compact mid-block. Lautaro gave Dzeko a perfect opportunity for the equalizer after a long ball from Darmian. But the Bosnian striker fired his shot into the stands. However, Lautaro soon scored the equalizer himself. Brozovic picked his run behind Fiorentina’s defense with a perfect through ball. The Argentine turned to finish it the first time towards the far post.

The Nerazzurri did not take much time to come back and take the lead. Calhanoglu played a cross in the box from the right that created chaos. The ball was half-cleared from the Fiorentina defense and Barella got it at the edge of the box. He played a high cross, and Lautaro made the run to hit it the first time on the volley. The Argentine claims that he is in the form of his life, and he is stepping up for Inter on big occasions. Fiorentina came with an aggressive press during the start of the second half. The Viola pushed their full-backs high to pin Inter back.

Inzaghi decided to bring Lukaku for Dzeko who was having a poor game, and De Vrij for Bastoni as the Italian defender picked up a yellow card. The Belgian striker showed that he has truly returned to form. After fending off a couple of challenges, Lukaku fired a strike from distance. However, Terracciano pushed it away and Dimarco was offside as he went for the rebound.

Fiorentina were still creating chances toward the end, but Jovic missed the target couple of times. Inzaghi made his final substitutions as he brought Gagliardini and Correa to help out more in defense. Inter managed to keep their lead intact and defend their title.
