Man City eye Bastoni for €55 million in summer

Man City eye Alessandro Bastoni after watching his brilliant performance against Benfica in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Nerazzurri might sell the defender if a suitable offer arrives, as they are still negotiating with his agent over a contract renewal. Inter would not want to lose another big defender on a free transfer and might cash in on him in the summer if Bastoni decides not to extend his deal.

The Nerazzurri might also have to sell the Italian defender if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. Inter are currently in the fifth spot and will have to improve domestically to get back in the top four. They also have to raise funds in the summer transfer window and sell some ‘untouchable’ players. City are willing to offer a good deal to the Italian, but he wants to stay at Inter. According to reports, Inter will agree to sell him for an offer above €55 million.

Pep Guardiola admires Bastoni, as the Italian defender is exceptional on the ball. He has the quality to drive forward, play penetrating passes, and deliver pinpoint crosses. Moreover, the Spanish manager has been using a back three in recent games, and Bastoni would settle nicely in that setup. Also, Aymeric Laporte’s future at the Etihad is uncertain. The Spanish defender is not getting enough minutes at City and is eyeing a move away in the summer. Hence this opens the door for City to sign another defender.

Inter and Alessandro Bastoni’s agents are still negotiating over the new wages in the new deal. Inter are not willing to go above €5.5 million, while Bastoni wants around €7 million. City could take advantage of the situation if Inter fail to renew his deal.
