Salernitana hold Inter as Candreva scores late

Salernitana hold Inter as the Nerazzurri’s trouble on the road continues with another draw. AS Roma can knock Inter out of the top four if they win against Torino tonight. The pressure is mounting on Inzaghi as the Italian manager has failed to register a victory in the last six matches. The Italian manager admitted that they have to close the game with the number of chances they create. He agreed that Inter are going through a rough patch, and every game is crucial for the top four hopes.

The Italian manager decided to make some changes as he brought Lukaku and Correa back in attack. While Asllani got a rare start, Brozovic started on the bench. The Nerazzurri got an early lead and were looking confident in the first half.

After a quick interchange in the back, Asllani played a nice ball over the top to Lukaku, who placed his header wide of the defender. Gosens made a darting run inside the box to finish it. The Mexican keeper Ochoa, was the star performer for the hosts, as he made crucial saves to keep them in the game. Correa and Lukaku’s headers were accurate, but Ochoa managed to keep them out.

Inter had a bright start to the second half as well, with Correa playing it out to Barella. The Italian midfielder decided to go himself and ignore Lukaku, but his strike hit the post. The Belgian striker got a wonderful chance from Asllani’s corner. He went down to hit the header from a close range but somehow missed it as it hit the crossbar. De Vrij then tried on the follow-up, but Ochoa made a brilliant save to keep the ball out of the goal line.

Salernitana were close to finding an equalizer on the other end with Candreva’s cross. But Dia’s shot hit the crossbar. Inter had another chance to seal the game as Lukaku found Lautaro making a run behind. The Argentine was one-on-one with Ochoa but did not have the angle to find the goal.

Inter finally got punished in the end for not sealing the game as their former player Candreva found the net with an astonishing strike. Candreva was looking for a teammate in the box with his cross, but he found the net as Onana could not save it. Inter will now focus on the UCL clash against Benfica on Tuesday.
