Unfair refereeing in Derby d’Italia says Inzaghi

Unfair refereeing in Derby d’Italia results in another loss for Inter in Serie A. The Nerazzurri are now down to the third position in the table and could drop out of the top four if they do not get back on track. However, a blatant mistake from the VAR played a huge role in Inter Milan’s defeat last night at the Meazza. Inzaghi was unhappy with the decision, as a similar incident occurred in the draw against Monza in January.

Inter conceded another goal in transition as Rabiot played to Kostic, who was completely unmarked on the left flank. The Serbian wing-back drilled it to the bottom corner. However, there was an evident handball from Rabiot during the build-up, as he tried to control the ball. Moreover, the ball touched Vlahovic’s arm afterward. VAR had a long look over this incident, but they could not find ‘conclusive evidence’ to overturn the referee’s decision. Inzaghi felt it was disrespectful to hear that VAR could not find clear footage.

The Nerazzurri dominated the possession, but could not find an opening. Szczesny made some crucial saves, and the Bianconeri were threatening on the counter. Inzaghi admitted that Inter made more mistakes in defense, as they could not maintain their structure. However, the unfair decision changed the match completely, as Inter had to take more risks. Inzaghi also used a back four towards the end and deployed Correa as a number 10 with the strikers slightly wide.

The Nerazzurri will face Juventus again on April 4th for the Coppa Italia semi-finals. Inter are now focused on Coppa Italia and the Champions League as the Scudetto looks to be out of reach. However, they have to get back to winning ways in Serie A to stay in the top four.
