Why Inzaghi does not start Frattesi ahead of Mkhitaryan

Why does Simone Inzaghi not start Davide Frattesi ahead of Henrikh Mkhitaryan? The Italian midfielder has been in red-hot form for his national team and had a brilliant pre-season. The former Sassuolo midfielder was Inter Milan’s best player in the pre-season games. He has shown his qualities for Inter in Serie A as well, but Inzaghi is yet to give him a full game. For Italy, he scored a brace that pushed them to the second spot.

However, the Nerazzurri manager has his reasons to keep Frattesi on the bench. Barella and Calhanoglu are practically untouchable in key games. Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan’s sublime vision and fine technique make it difficult to bench him. The former Roma midfielder gives calmness in the center of the park, which helps in rotating the ball and getting out of tough situations. However, at this stage of his career, he can not play all the games for Inter.

Why Inzaghi does not start Davide Frattesi?

Frattesi is a different type of player, who offers something different in the midfield. The former Sassuolo midfielder makes constant runs in the box and is aggressive with his shooting. He managed to fire 24 shots in the last season, which was second highest by any midfielder in Serie A. Also, Frattesi makes his presence felt in the box. But Inzaghi likes to have more control at the start of the game, something that Mkhitaryan offers.

The former AS Roma captain will most likely retain his position in the starting eleven in the Derby della Madonnina. But Inzaghi would not wait to bring in Frattesi if Inter will be looking for a goal. Frattesi can disrupt any defense coming from the bench, as he spots space behind the defense and makes unmarked runs. Inzaghi will use him more in the Champions League games.
