Chris Smalling to Inter move possible in a swap deal reports Manchester Evening News. The United owned defender had a good season with Roma on loan. But, as Roma finalise their signing of Marash Kumbulla, Smalling is not a target for them anymore. The two-time Premier League winner is back in Manchester for the next season.
Moreover, United are far from reaching an agreement for Jadon Sancho with Dortmund. And if the deal doesn’t fall in place, they’ve already made a list for alternatives. Among them is Ivan Perisic, along with Gareth Bale and Douglas Costa. While Bale might well be a Tottenham player by the time you read this, Perisic is the only real alternative for United.
Inter and United can make a swap deal for Perisic and Smalling. But Inter already have plenty of defensive options. Thus the deal will only be possible if Milan Skriniar decides to leave the Nerazzurri. And recent reports suggest that he’s adamant on staying at the club and finding his form. The 25-year-old defender also has Conte’s full support who pushed for Godin to leave and Skriniar to stay.
Chris Smalling to Inter move possible but should Inter go through with it?
As of now, Inter don’t need either of Smalling or Perisic. The Nerazzurri club needs the transfer fee that Ivan Perisic can fetch them. Inter are so stuffed with players that the club fielded a completely different 11 in the second half of their friendly against Lugano. So Inter won’t do a swap just because Smalling is a very good defender.
Chris Smalling to Inter move is not a viable option for the club. The Nerazzurri are cash strapped at the moment. Furthermore, Smalling will want to play regularly like he did at Roma which will not be possible at Inter. Conte and Inter should just offer Perisic to United for around €17M which is his actual value.
