Inter came to this match after a 4-1 win over Lugano, but they faced a much better opposition this time. Golovin and Ben Yedder scored one goal each and provided assists to each other.
Inter did not turn up in the first half, and Monaco were lethal in transition. The Nerazzurri could not keep up with the pace of Monaco’s attack. D’Ambrosio was playing in the middle of the back three, and he was unable to stop the runs. In the first goal, Inter were in transition they could not stop Golovin from making the in-behind run as Inter were playing with a high line.
Inter had enough possession, but they did not create any real chance in the first 30 minutes. Monaco doubled their lead in the 30th minute as Inter were caught again in transition, and Golovin played a perfectly weighted pass to Yedder. The French striker precisely chipped the ball to make it 2-0.
