Inter Milan might consider to sell Denzel Dumfries in the upcoming summer transfer window, especially with Tajon Buchanan already onboard as a potential replacement. The Nerazzurri are willing to let go of the Dutch defender with another option in their squad. Also, he has interest from the Premier League so Inter want to cash in on that.
Dumfries, is currently in his third season with Inter. He arrived from PSV in 2021 and is operating on the original four-year contract, expiring in June 2025. Players like Federico Dimarco, Lautaro Martinez, and Nicolo Barella, have secured or are set for long-term extensions. But Dumfries’ contract situation is less clear as he is still waiting to pen his new contract.
Inter do not want to let Dumfries enter the final year of his contract without an extension. If the 27-year-old doesn’t sign a new deal, Inter will look to sell him next summer. Inter believe they could fetch a fee of around €35-40 million for the Dutch international if they decide to put him on the market.
Inter Milan could sell Dumfries in the summer and replace him with Buchanan
In anticipation of Dumfries’ potential departure, Inter has already made a strategic move. They signed 24-year-old Canadian international Tajon Buchanan from Club Brugge. He came at the beginning of the current month for a fee of around €10 million. Buchanan came as a replacement for Juan Cuadrado to help give support. He is expected to be sidelined for a significant part of the season due to surgery.
Buchanan serves as an immediate option on the right flank alongside Dumfries and Matteo Darmian. Inter is also evaluating his potential to become a starting player. If Buchanan proves himself in this regard, Inter may opt to cash in on Dumfries in the summer. So they will have a seamless transition with a promising replacement already in their ranks.
