Inter glide past Cagliari 2-0 in their first away game

Inter glide past Cagliari 2-0 as the new Nerazzurri captain, Lautaro Martinez keeps on scoring. Inter managed to seal the game around half-hour as Dumfries and Lautaro got themselves on the scoresheet. Inzaghi decided to go with the lineup, and Inter did not have troubles until the end period. Sommer made a couple of good stops, but Cagliari struggled to create chances otherwise. The Nerazzurri dominated the game with possession and kept the hosts in their half.

Inter’s first goal came after Calhanoglu won the ball from his number 6 position. Cagliari were trying to take risks with straight penetrative passes through the middle. But Inter managed to take the ball away, and Thuram controlled it well as Dumfries made the run towards the box. The French forward played the cheeky pass with his left foot to find Dumfries. The Dutch defender struck it well from a wide angle to give Inter the lead.

Marcus Thuram had a better game for Inter, as he adapted to the slow gameplay of Serie A, compared to Bundesliga. Inter got another goal before the half-hour mark. Dimarco showcased immense control on the flank to deliver a cross to Lautaro. The Nerazzurri captain handled the ball well and moved past Dossena to score his third goal in two games this season.

Cagliari were better in the second half, and Luvumbo, who came for Pavoletti in the first half, was causing some problems for Inter on the right flank. The captain’s injury is another problem for Ranieri on his plate as he has some long-term absentees. Meanwhile, Inter enjoyed plenty of possession in Cagliari’s half, but they looked complacent in the second half.

Inzaghi decided to bring Augusto, Cuadrado, and Frattesi as he wanted more cover and fresh legs to keep his two-goal lead. Also, Arnautovic came later and created a chance for Calhanoglu, who fired his shot but the ball hit the post. The Austrian can start some games as well when Inter needs a focal point to launch their attacks under pressure.

Cagliari were not clinical with their finishing as they missed a couple of chances towards the end. Close to the 90-minute mark, Azzi had the chance to get one back and cause a scare in the last few minutes of the game. However, Sommer came on time to defend his near post, and Inter came back with all three points.
