Inter thrash Milan 5-1 as Mkhitaryan scored a brace

Inter Milan thrash AC Milan with a statement 5-1 victory as they maintain their 100% start to the Serie A season. For the first time, a team has managed to get five wins in a row in the Milan derby in a single year. Inzaghi went with a similar lineup, which has helped him to get a perfect start this season. Acerbi was the only player, who came in the back after recovering to bolster their defense. Meanwhile, AC Milan had to make some changes in defense courtesy of some injuries and suspensions.

Inter did not take much time to open the scoring as Mkhitaryan justified his position in the starting eleven. Thuram ran past Theo Hernandez and played the ball inside, and the ball went to Dimarco. The Italian defender fired the ball in the box. Mkhitaryan was well-positioned to hit the ball home and open the scoring. Thuram showed his true potential in the derby as he was influential in several passages of play.

The French forward got his first Derby Della Madonnina goal. So Lautaro swept the ball ahead in the transition to Dumfries. The Dutch wing-back was marked by Theo, but he managed to play it wide to Thuram. The former Gladbach forward took his time and got past Thiaw to produce a thunderbolt strike. Inter managed to keep their lead in the first half.

AC Milan were dominating possession, but they were clueless with the ball. Inter had a compact shape that helped them to restrict the Rossoneri. However, they got one back after the break, as a momentary lapse in concentration got the better of them. Giroud dropped and no one followed him, and the French striker had the time to release Leao, something that has worked for them several times now. The Portuguese forward managed to run past Darmian and make it 2-1.

AC Milan’s hopes were soon crashed as Calhanoglu picked Lautaro wide on left. The Argentine showed great control and passed it to Mkhitaryan, who got his second with the help of a deflection. Also, to make matters worse, Theo conceded a penalty as he brought Lautaro down. Calhanoglu again scored against his former club by slamming it straight into the goal.

Inzaghi had made some changes as the new joiners Augusto, Frattesi, and Arnautovic came in. So Frattesi did not take much time to score his first Milan derby goal. Mkhitaryan again helped by finding the Italian midfielder’s goal, who celebrated with his shirt off. Inter will cherish their bragging rights for a while.
