Joaquin Correa brace earns Inter a win over Udinese as Inzaghi decided to give rest to Lautaro. Inter are still in 3rd position as AC Milan and Napoli won their respective matches as well. Inzaghi gave rest to some players who played against Empoli as he made 7 changes. Milan Skriniar, Edin Dzeko, and Ivan Perisic got back in the team while De Vrij, Lautaro, Sanchez, and Darmian started on the bench. Ranocchia got a rare start and did a good job as he won the most number of duels in the match (12).
Udinese lined up in their usual back 3 system and they had 3 forwards in front. Success, Beto, and Pereyra formed an attacking trio and were looking to win the second balls when Udinese gave a long ball. The front 3 and the double pivot formed a block in the center which forced Inter to go wide. This system worked in the first half as they managed to contain Inter successfully.
Joaquin Correa brace earns Inter 3 points
Udinese got the first chance of the game as Stryger-Larsen placed a low shot after receiving a cross. But Handanovic was able to handle it easily. Then Inter had a couple of chances through Barella as the Italian was getting a lot of space to shoot. He had 5 shots in the match and managed to put 2 on target. Inter were enjoying long periods of possession but they could not beat Udinese’s low block in the first half.
In the second half, Udinese started with some pressure but after some time they went back to their low block. Inzaghi now gave Perisic more freedom to go forward and it worked out well. At the hour mark, Perisic did a dummy and let the ball roll to Correa who then made a solo run towards the box and dribbled past a couple of defenders to give Inter the lead. Udinese then looked to push forward which left plenty of space behind. In the 68th minute, Barella spotted the run of Dumfries behind who then gave a perfect pass to Correa. The Argentine managed to provide a solid finish and gave Inter a cushion. Inzaghi substituted some players after that to ensure that they kept a clean sheet.
