Inter sign Sommer and will undergo medicals today

Inter Milan sign Yann Sommer as Onana’s replacement after triggering the Swiss keeper’s release clause. The former Bayern keeper had agreed to join the Nerazzurri weeks ago, but Inter were reluctant to pay his release clause. However, without any competent keeper in their ranks, Inter needed to sign him quickly.

The Nerazzurri will be paying €6 million amount in two installments, and first sort out the final details. He will be taking his medical tests today and will soon put pen to paper. Inter first wanted to wrap up the signing of Samardzic, and are now prioritizing getting Sommer on board. The Nerazzurri also have to sign another keeper, that will act as the second fiddle. They are eyeing some young talents like Trubin, but are facing resistance from Shakhtar over transfer fees.

Sommer has been Inter’s prime target to replace Onana, as the Swiss international is an established keeper. However, Inter did not want to trigger his release clause previously out of respect to Bayern. But now they were forced to get him as the Bundesliga giants were taking time to find a replacement for Sommer.

The Swiss keeper has signed a three-year contract for Inter and will be their primary keeper this season. Contract could have the option of extending to a third year, as per reports. Inzaghi pushed for the signing of Sommer, as he wanted a replacement for Onana soon to incorporate into the team.

Sommer lacks Onana’s skills on the ball, but he is an excellent shot-stopper. His reflexes are sharp, and has performed on big stages multiple times. But Inter will need another keeper to support him and help in the future. Meanwhile, Sommer is the perfect fix for now, as his experience will help him to settle soon in the club.
