Yann Sommer is close to join Inter from Bayern Munich as the Nerazzurri accelerate the process to find replacements for Handanovic and Onana. The Swiss keeper is going to be Inter’s first addition to fill the void between the posts. Sommer was one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga. He filled the shoes of Manuel Neuer perfectly in crucial games.
Yann Sommer was not called for a friendly game with Bayern as the former Gladbach keeper is having talks with Inter. The Bundesliga giants had a game against Rottach-Egerin, but Sommer played no part in it. After the departure of Onana, the Nerazzurri are eager to sign him. Inter want to sign him soon as they would like to have their team prepared before the pre-season tour in Japan.
Andre Onana left Inter yesterday after bidding farewell to his teammates and supporting staff. The Cameroonian keeper will undergo his medicals with Manchester United today. Erik Ten Hag pushed to sign him, and Inter dropped their evaluation to €50 million initial offer, with €5 million in add-ons.
Sommer close to join Inter as Onana’s replacement
Inter will miss the services of Onana, who had a terrific season after coming from his doping ban. The Cameroonian keeper hit the ground running at Inter despite not playing for a while. He showed his worth in just one season and played a key role in taking Inter to the Champions League finals. Now Yann Sommer will have the responsibility to take over, the Swiss keeper has experience, but not in Serie A.
Also, Sommer is 34 now, and his best years are behind him. However, he could give a couple of quality seasons. But Inter will have to find another young keeper with high potential for the future. Trubin’s transfer seems unlikely as Shakhtar are reluctant to negotiate on their evaluation.
