Rennes target Diego Godin to reinforce their defence reports Sky Sports Italia. The French side are in talks with Inter and Godin to carry out the move. Rennes finished an impressive third in Ligue 1, thus qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Milan Skriniar’s reassurance that he will stay at the San Siro has prompted that Godin is up for sale. The 34-year-old Uruguayan impressed in the tail-end of the season after having a forgetful year. Moreover, Godin joined Inter from Athletico as a free transfer last summer. But, the vastly experienced defender has failed to step up to the task.
If adapting to Conte’s gruesome defensive method wasn’t enough Godin is down the pecking order since his arrival. Age maybe catching up to the celebrated defender but a lot of football is still left in him. Thus, an interest by Rennes can be a life saver for Godin. The Uruguayan defender got in touch with fellow countryman Edinson Cavani to inquire about the competitiveness of Ligue 1 according to reports. Cavani has played for PSG until his contract expired this summer.
Rennes target Diego Godin but will Inter let him go?

Diego Godin has 2 years left on his contract as of now. But, Inter will be more than willing to let him go. The Uruguayan might not fetch a lot of cash through the transfer but will be a relief on the wage bill. More importantly, Inter have made up their mind to give Milan Skriniar a chance to rediscover his form. This leaves no place for Godin in the three-man defence. The Nerazzurri also plan to bring quicker defenders to suit Conte’s system. And Godin is a wall at the back but not quick enough. Rennes target Diego Godin will also want to play regularly which will be possible with a move to Ligue 1. Godin’s move will be a win for Inter as they look to offload players in a market hit by the pandemic.
