Arturo Vidal cannot arrive at Inter before someone leaves reports Corriere Dello Sport. The report further adds that the Chilean midfielder has worked out his contract termination with Barcelona. This puts the ball in Inter’s court to go ahead with Vidal’s medical. But club President Steven Zhang is waiting for someone to leave before his arrival.
Inter has 37 players in the squad right now. The number is way more than a club should accommodate in the first team. The swollen squad is a result of outcasts like Perisic and Nainngolan returning from loan. The club is working to bid them farewell on a permanent deal. But, the pandemic hit transfer market is making things difficult for Inter. Most clubs are avoiding unnecessary spending to brace themselves for the loss in revenue.
Inter Vice President and legend Javier Zanetti also stated that the club needs to sell before buying. Although Vidal is a free transfer, his wage is no joke. The Chilean has agreed to a €6M per year contract with Inter. The Nerazzurri need to offload a few high earners to make a place for Vidal in the wage budget.
Vidal cannot arrive at Inter but will that make him impatient?
The Chilean midfielder is not happy that he has to wait. Reports suggest that he is only willing to wait until the start of the next week for Inter. If the Nerazzurri fail to reunite him with his former coach Conte till then, he’ll explore other options. Antonio Conte is very keen on having him in the squad in a bid to win the Scudetto. The two played a major role at Juventus when Conte managed the club, to win back to back Scudetti together.
Both Vidal and Conte will be hoping to replicate that success at Inter. This can potentially be Vidal’s last big move and he’ll prefer Conte over anyone else right now. With Diego Godin moving close to an exit and joining Cagliari, this can be Vidal’s week at Inter. A little more than a week before the clubs first Serie A fixture, Vidal cannot arrive at Inter but the club should make sure he does, sooner than later.
